I Pity The Fool (who watches this)

I Pity The FoolI Pity The Fool

Move over Oprah and Dr. Phil, just 13 days left until Mr. T’s self help reality show ‘I Pithy The Fool’ hits the airwaves. Yes, just what America needs, another narcissistic windbag telling others how to live their lives.

Truth be told, while not a fan of the A-Team I kinda like Mr. T and think he will be a big improvement over the the self-centered chocolate couch queen and the bloated Dr. But, do we really need another show of this ilk?

I actually stood in line behind Mr. T waiting to watch Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder’s ‘Stir Crazy‘ in Hillside, Illinois in 1980. This was just before he became famous, yet he had all of his gaudy jewelry on and was accompanied by two scantily dressed ladies. He was pretty quiet and was smaller than I had expected, otherwise there was not too much I took away from that brush with celebrity.

I have enjoyed his Comcast commercials of late, perhaps he may surpise me with this latest reinvention of himself. Maybe if he put his guests in a headlocks until they agreed to change their ways, it might appeal to me. I can only hope.

  1. I also had such a brush with greatness. I worked at the health club Mr. T belonged to. Friends called him “T”. You really could tell when he was in the place because you could hear him talking loudly, actually peppering his speech with “I pity the fool”. He wore his jewelry even on the tennis court. He was comfortable with himself and with other people, treating employees and members the same. I wish him luck in his endeavors whatever they may be.
