No Scottish Soccer For Che
Inflammatory images are banned from soccer games in Glasgow, Scotland, under an ordinance designed to help officials keep order.
The measures, known as anti-sectarian laws(?), are designed to crackdown on religious bigots but interestingly enough, also bans images of Che and PLO flags, which soccer fans often bring to the matches:
The communist South American guerrilla fighter is among the more bizarre victims of the new laws, which are supposed to be aimed at preventing fans from displaying inflammatory religious imagery.
However, regulations also stipulate that anything “political” must also be banned, meaning that Guevara - whose image has been worn by Celtic fans in the past - has now been ruled out of bounds. Flags backing the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, sometimes displayed by Celtic supporters, also fall within the remit of the ban.

Glasgow City Council confirmed that licensing rules for street traders now prevent them from selling political imagery at football matches.
The rules state that no flags or scarves can be sold which have a “political, racial, religious or sectarian content or which could reasonably be construed as inciting”.
Wullie McGartland said: “I don’t understand what the bold Che has got to do with it [sectarianism]. There is no mention on the scarf of the IRA or anything else from across the water - just a picture of Che, his name and Hasta La Victoria Siempre [Always toward victory].”
Tommy Sheridan, the Scottish Socialist MSP, said: “The most iconic image of freedom and justice throughout the world is Che Guevara’s image, and to ban paraphernalia of that image is dictatorship personified.”
He added: “Only those in authority who want to maintain that authority have anything to fear from Che Guevara. This is a ban too far.”

That fact that Rangers/Celtic matches are always responsible for plenty of violence could be part of it.
A little reading, for example here on Wikipedia would show that Che was a vicious killer.

Muppetlord, If you could either expand, or give some shred of evidence for your assertion “rangers/celtic matches are always responsible for plenty of violence”, that would be helpful towards some form of discussion. I attend many of these games, so I have first hand experience, and I’m well aware of the collateral consequences from some of these games - which in truth is evident all year, not just as a result of these games.
As for basing my opinions and conclusions purely on research from wikipedia - well, yes it can be of help, but I choose to base my thoughts on my constant education, and the many literary pieces which have been written about the man (Ché) - both critical and positive.
As in the initial article about “overtly political images”, then I’m sure many would say Nelson Mandela was of the same ilk. The UK, US and many other Western Govts. and establishments defined him as a terrorist while involved in an armed resistance in South Africa - until that is, he was freed from incarceration, and became the first democratic President of S.Africa, and was then conversely described by those very same western governments as a celebrated statesman. Do we just blindly accept what our government dictates to us without question?
